Although biofuels are not explicitely included as part of the strategies of the Swiss environmental policy to reach the targets of the Kyoto Protocol, some collectivities and/or companies however consider that the main objective of biofuels development is to partially substitute diesel and gasoline in order to:
-
achieve the targets in terms of greenhouse effect (reduction of CO2 emissions)
-
ensure a durable security of supply (reduced dependence with respect to fossil fuels)
-
promote renewable energies
The development of biofuels also aims at offering new possibilities to the agricultural policy, oriented towards the maintenance of active rural areas and a multifunctional agriculture.
