The goal of this report is to describe and compare different initiatives on biofuels sustainability standards, in the intention of offering a useful tool for policy makers and different stakeholders already involved or wishing to be involved in liquid biofuels consumption and production. Part I of the document is dedicated to an overview of frequently asked questions about the sustainability of biofuels production. In Part II of this document these questions are deepened by describing an extensive list of initiatives, varying in scope and application framework, for the development of sustainability standards for liquid biofuels production. This document comes to enrich a sometimes harsh discussion. Biofuels, as an alternative to a full reliance on fossil fuel and a strategy to reduce greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions, are increasingly attacked from a point of view of sustainability.
