Germany: Implementation of Biofuels Plan was a disaster

Germany wanted to lead the way in the use of bioethanol on its roads. Now, though, it looks as though too many cars would be unable to handle the biofuel, making the plan impractical. German papers argue that may not be such a bad thing. Germany's enthusiasm for biofuels is in question this week after estimates were released that well over a million vehicles on German roads would be unable to run on gasoline containing a higher mixture of bioethanol. Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel had planned to introduce a requirement that gasoline sold in Germany contain 10% green ethanol made from plants, a mixture known as E10.
