Bulgaria to impose biofuel blending from 2010

Bulgaria will introduce compulsory blending of diesel and petrol with biofuels from 2010 to boost the usage of the green fuels and meet European Union environmental targets, parliament decided on Friday. The new rules, which come into force in March next year, require blending of diesel with a 2% content of biodiesel. Biodiesel content will be raised twice a year to reach 8% by 2015 and 10% by 2020. The obligatory blending of petrol fuel with 2% content of bioethanol will be introduced as of March 2011, according to amendments to the law on the renewable energy sources approved by parliament. "The biofuel usage in transportation should reach 4% of the total (fuel) consumption by 2011", the economy and energy ministry said in a statement. "The amendments aim to encourage biofuels use."
