UPM-Kymmene eyes biofuels plant for France

Finnish papermaker UPM-Kymmene said on Monday it would start an environmental study for a biofuel refinery at its Stracel plant in France, adding it could take a year to decide on an investment. "The time for the investment decision is not right now but later after ... assessments have been done and the final technical concept has been selected", Petri Kukkonen, director of UPM Biofuels, said in a statement. No information was given on the size of any potential plant in France. UPM has said it could start making wood-based biofuel by 2012 as it seeks to tap growing demand for green energy with Finland's Fortum and Metso.
