Valero Energy to nearly triple America's biodiesel capacity

Valero Energy Corporation of San Antonio, Texas has been granted $241 million in loan funds by the U.S. Department of Energy for the construction of one of 18 renewable energy projects. In cooperation with Darling International, Inc., a food industry "rendering" company, which collects used cooking oil and processes it for new purposes like biodiesel, Valero will expand its energy products to include a renewable energy. The joint venture will be known as Diamond Green Diesel, LLC. Valero will use loan funds to design, build and operate a biodiesel facility near, not San Antonio, but Norco, Louisiana (near New Orleans). Darling will supply used oil (and other fats, oils and greases) to Valero at its St. Charles refinery.
