Mexican researchers isolate super high-yield algal strain
Source : biofuelsdigest.com
In Mexico, researchers at the la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California are isolating microalgae from a lake in San Quentin, south of Ensenada, to see if it would make an appropriate feedstock for biofuel. The species under investigation can be grown in poor conditions, as it is adapted to the water quality of the lake, meaning there would be the opportunity to avoid the best water supplies and focus on lower grades as sites for feedstock production. Additionally, initial tests show that oil production many times higher than traditional algae.
