US agency studying proposal to allow canola biodiesel imports

The Environmental Protection Agency is studying a proposal by the US biodiesel industry to allow imports of Canadian canola-based biodiesel into the US. "The question is always of what feedstock the biodiesel is made of", Karl Simon, a representative of EPA, said in a speech at the National Biodiesel Conference and Expo in Phoenix, on Wednesday. Biodiesel can be derived from a variety of different sources, chief among them being soy bean, canola, palm oil, tallow oil, and algal oil. The abundant volume of biodiesel in the US is made from soy bean oil.
