Hungary to double biofuel use by 2020

Hungary is planning to increase the share of biofuels in the total energy use of its transportation sector from 4% in 2009 to 10% in 2020 and 15% in 2030, according to the first draft of the country's long-term energy strategy published on 13 May. The strategy aims to boost biofuels use partly through the continued promotion of ethanol and the introduction of second-generation biofuels and biogas in public transport. The document does not set specific targets for biofuels production, but it aims to maintain tax incentives for the distribution of sustainable E85 fuel without the overcompensation of production costs.
