There have been promises and speeches about the Carbon Neutral plan of 2012 in Costa Rica. It started under ex President Oscar Arias' presidency and now Chinchilla is following the same road. The question is: Are they really serious about this, or is it just a way of gaining more trust? The New Stadium seems to have taken everyone's attention since it was inaugurated; nobody mentions that a diesel generator is supplying its power. This leads too much disbelief in the honesty of Costa Rica when it comes to environmental issues and its intention of become an eco and environmental friendly nation. It is supposed to accomplish 10% biofuel blends by the end of 2012; at this present moment, this seems highly unlikely. Yet the conditions here are more than ideal for agro fuel with native flora like the plant Jatropha Curcas, a tree that produce oil that does not contaminate or compete with food crops. So what is holding everything up? The president of the United Biofuels of America (UBA) himself points out that Jathropha oil should be used to power the generators of the stadium.
